Google Opinion Rewards has a much improved UI in testing

<p><a href="https://www.androidpolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Screen-Shot-2018-08-05-at-9.31.47-PM.png" class=" no-style"><img class="alignnone size-hero-size wp-image-507306" src="https://www.androidpolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Screen-Shot-2018-08-05-at-9.31.47-PM-728x431.png" alt="" width="668" height="395" /></a></p> <p>Google's Opinion Rewards app is the only official way to get free Google Play credit, which is why so many use it. Each survey, which usually only takes a couple of seconds, gives out anywhere between $0.10 and $1, and that can add up quickly with enough surveys. A new, Material-themed interface is being tested, and it looks a lot better than the current UI.</p> <p><span id="more-507300"></span></p> <p style="text-align: center"><a href="https://www.androidpolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/op1.png" class=" no-style"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-507308" src="https://www.androidpolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/op1-329x695.png" alt="" width="329" height="695" /></a> <a href="https://www.androidpolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/op2.png" class=" no-style"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-507309" src="https://www.androidpolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/op2-329x695.png" alt="" width="329"...

As it turns out, hardware that wouldn't be out of place in 2010 doesn't make for a great smartphone experience in 2018. Seemingly out of nowhere, ASUS announced its first Android Go phone today, and it appears to be a decent product - at least on paper.<span id="more-507298"></span></p> <p>The ZenFone Live is powered by a Snapdragon 425 processor, which is slightly faster than the low-end MediaTek chips that most Go devices have been using.<div class="clear"></div> <a...

8 of our favorite tech deals this week: Phones new and old (and also some accessories)

<p style="text-align: center"><a href="https://www.androidpolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/deal-8-5-note8.png" class=" no-style"><img class="alignnone size-hero-size wp-image-507265" src="https://www.androidpolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/deal-8-5-note8-728x410.png" alt="" width="668" height="376" /></a></p> <p>When you're following tech deals, you never quite know what you're going to get. Some weeks it feels like all you're seeing for sale are smart-home devices, or sometimes it's Bluetooth speaker after Bluetooth speaker. And while we really appreciate all those offers, they just can't quite compete with the allure of saving serious money on really big-ticket items — and in this scene, that means discounts on smartphones themselves. If that's what you're craving, we're happy to deliver, as this past week has been straight-up inundated with...

In that past decade, we've seen some pretty crazy Android phones enter the market - some successful, but mostly nothing more than cool design experiments. In celebration of Android's 10th birthday, we thought we'd organize a list of 10 of the weirdest Android phones of all time, sorted from oldest to newest.</p> <p><span id="more-506883"></span></p> <h2>Motorola Backflip</h2> <p style="text-align: center"><a href="https://www.androidpolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/motorola-backflip.png" class=" no-style"><img class="alignnone wp-image-507155 size-full" src="https://www.androidpolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/motorola-backflip.png" width="480" height="320" /></a></p> <p>There was no shortage of phones with sliding keyboards back...

Weekend poll: Do you want a system-wide dark theme in stock Android?

<p style="text-align: center"><a href="https://www.androidpolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/DSC05652-2.jpg" class=" no-style"><img class="alignnone size-hero-size wp-image-507233" src="https://www.androidpolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/DSC05652-2-728x485.jpg" alt="" width="668" height="445" /></a></p> <p>As long as (AM)OLED displays have been included in phones, it seems like the most popular feature request for apps has been dark/black themes. Between the power savings, the attractive bezel-blending, and the simple convenience of just not being blinded at night, everyone from enthusiasts to night owls has enjoyed these gloomy additions. But right now, it's all still a per-app affair that most first-party Google apps don't participate in. But, if it were possible, would you want a system-wide dark/night mode setting in stock Android?<div class="clear"></div>...

This means owners of these devices with Assistant built in can command their TV, call up information, manage tasks, control smart home devices, and more with the power of their voice. However, this also means you're granting Google and the device manufacturer access to some of your personal information. If you don't reckon that to be a worthwhile trade-off, there's a simple way to shut off...
