Comment: Making the case for over-ear Apple headphones in 2019

I’m currently working on a handful of headphone reviews over at 9to5Toys, and during my extensive testing with various headphones, I’ve realized more and more that I want Apple over-ear headphones. Here’s why… The magic of the W1 Chip AirPods are by far the headphones I’ve used for the longest period of time, and there’s a […]

Amazon’s new Showroom lets you preview furniture in a virtual living room

If your habits tend to the latter, ensuring that side table goes with the rug can be a bit of a risk, or at least an elaborate dance of sample materials sent through the mail over weeks. But Amazon's new Showroom gives you a virtual space for some comparison shopping through the retailer's voluminous electronic shelves. Okay, so it's not quite as cool as <a href="https://www.amazon.com/b?tag=androidpolice-20&node=17337160011&bnode=https%3A%2F%2Fplay.google.com%2Fstore%2Fapps%2Fdetails%3Fid%3Dcom.amazon.mShop.android.shopping">Amazon's AR View</a>, or <a href="https://www.androidpolice.com/2018/03/19/hands-ikea-place-uses-ar-see-ektorp-goes-lovbacken/">IKEA Place's</a> <em>actual</em> augmented reality showroom, but it's...

Google’s new SMS and call permission policy is crippling apps used by millions

<p style="text-align: center"><a href="https://www.androidpolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Cerberus-Phone-Keyboard-Hero.jpg" class=" no-style"><img class="alignnone size-hero-size wp-image-536195" src="https://www.androidpolice.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Cerberus-Phone-Keyboard-Hero-728x485.jpg" alt="" width="668" height="445" /></a></p> <p>Late last year, Google decided it was <a href="https://www.androidpolice.com/2018/10/08/google-closely-monitor-sms-phone-permissions-apps-play-store/">time to crack down</a> on apps requesting SMS and call log permissions. Ostensibly, exceptions would be granted for categories including backups and automation, but as of now, there are still gaps which cover legitimate use cases. While some popular apps like <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm">Tasker</a> have <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/tasker/comments/acheqp/update_sms_and_call_permissions_success/">successfully secured exemptions</a>, others like <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus">Cerberus</a> have not. Instead, they've decided to strip out those permissions or risk facing the wrath of Google's upcoming <a href="https://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/answer/9047303?hl=en">January 9th banhammer</a>, killing associated functionality and disappointing millions of...

Google in 2019: All in on AI

With the release of the Google Pixel 3 in October, Google reaffirmed its position as a worthy contender in the bloody war of the smartphone industry. However, despite the handset’s glowing reviews, the Pixel line still has a very small market share, especially compared to popular lines from Samsung or Huawei. While Google’s ambitions for smartphone dominance may […]
