Disney Just Announced More Big Details About its Netflix Rival

Disney’s much-anticipated streaming service, which will be stuffed with Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars content, won’t be launching until late 2019. No exact release date was revealed, which means it’s possible the service may not launch until next December, over a year from now.

The service, which is now called Disney Plus, is primed to become a major competitor to services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. In fact, the launch of Disney Plus will have an immediate effect on what movies show up on Netflix, as subscribers will no longer be able to watch Moana or Thor: Ragnarok.

Additionally, Disney has already confirmed that its service will be more affordable than Netflix—at least when it launches.

Disney Plus is shaping up to be an unstoppable force in the entertainment world. Not only will it feature Disney’s most iconic movies, but the company also plans to create original content, including a Star Wars show called The Mandalorian. Marvel fans can also expect Tom Hiddleston’s Loki to get an original show.

Hearing that the service won’t launch until late 2019 is a major bummer, but considering what will be available on the service when it launches, it sounds like it’ll be well worth the wait.
